Through unused, unallocated remedy funds from previous year, teachers who didn’t accrue significant remedy (less than 1 day/month) in the 2023-2024 school year are eligible to pre-apply for up to $200 of Consumables money for their classroom.
Teachers who previously received consumables money during last years’ process, will generally not be eligible.
The process to apply for these funds are as follows:
- Complete the Online Pre-Approval Form found here.
- NOSTA will e-mail you to confirm pre-approval or explain why the application was denied (and how to re-apply if applicable). If you are pre-approved, you will receive the 2024-2025 NOSTA Consumables Form and information on completing/returning it.
- The 2024-2025 NOSTA Consumables Forms and supporting documentation is emailed to NOSTA.
All forms MUST be in to NOSTA by March 31, 2025. - Once the Consumables Form has been received at NOSTA, Deb will issue a cheque or e-transfer for reimbursement. In normal circumstances, once NOSTA receives the Consumables form and all supporting documentation, a payment will be issued within two weeks.
Some frequently asked questions can be found below.
F.A.Q.
What is a “Consumable”?
The definition is broad, and we will happily discuss your specific scenario, but the general idea is that the money should be used to purchase supplies and items that have a ‘shelf life’. Things that would reasonably used up over a few years.
Some creative examples so far: Class carpet, paints, cricut vinyl, books, fidgets, classroom sports equipment, science demonstration supplies, worksheet software, blackline masters, subscriptions to curriculum materials…
The only absolute no around the money is Laptops/Tablets/iPads.
Do I have to purchase the consumables trough a set supplier or store?
No. Once you’re pre-approved, the instructions you receive will have information around submitting your receipts and consumables form to Deb at the NOSTA office. There are no requirements to find consumables from a specific company.
Is it only $200?
Yes, for now. This was an estimate based on how many teachers would be eligible to apply. After the March 31st deadline has passed, if there is still significant funds remaining, another round of pre-approvals will be done for interested and eligible teachers to apply for additional funding.
Can I pool my entitled allotment with other eligible teachers?
For accounting purposes, NOSTA can only pre-approve up to $200/member. If multiple teachers get pre-approved for $200 each and wanted to go in together on a more expensive resource, they could submit the full receipt and each claim their pre-approval amounts. If doing this, please note on the Remedy Consumables form how the receipt is being divided up, and by which teachers.
Can NOSTA invoice/pay the company directly?
No, the teacher must receive pre-approval from NOSTA and then will receive the forms needed for reimbursements and instructions around purchasing the resources.
The process in a nutshell: Pre-Approval Form – > Pre Approval Granted and Reimbursement Form Sent to Teacher -> Teacher purchases the Items and submits receipts and form to NOSTA office -> NOSTA reimburses teacher through e-trasnfer or cheque..
