Purpose:
This survey gathers information about room clears and student removals in School District 83 to understand how often they occur, why they happen, and how they affect learning.
Here are our working definitions:
A room clear occurs when a student’s stress responses (often as a result of unmet accommodations, needs or environmental triggers and, in some instance medical needs) result in other students being directed to leave the classroom or common learning area for safety or management reasons.
A student removal happens when the student in crisis is escorted or asked to leave the classroom.
A reverse room clear occurs when students are kept inside their classroom or other enclosed learning area while a dysregulated or unsafe situation takes place outside for example, in a hallway, common area, or outdoor space near the classroom — and students are instructed not to leave for safety reasons.
All of the above are forms of exclusion and can indicate that students, teachers, and support staff don’t have the resources they need.Your responses will help identify patterns and the underlying causes, such as insufficient staffing or lack of appropriate supports, so we can advocate for safer, more inclusive learning environments for everyone.

Data will be reported only in aggregate form, not tied back to specific students, to highlight systemic patterns
